Mera Peak is the highest mountain that can be climbed in Nepal with a normal trekking permit, which, added to its few technical difficulties, makes it one of the best peaks to delve into high-altitude mountaineering. Its glacier does not present major complications and in the last section of the North route there is a section equipped with a rope to help us to the top.
The approach route begins in the town of Lukla, famous for its airport and being the starting point for Everest Base Camp, but we quickly enter the Hongu Valley. This valley, parallel to that of Khumbu (Everest), is much less traveled, which offers us much more to enter the real Nepali culture and meet its people.
This is a 21-day travel program since we return through the Amphulaptcha Pass (5,845m). We consider this route much more attractive than returning by the same ascent route. If you have less travel days we can propose an alternative where we would shorten approximately 4 days.
Mera Peak offers fantastic views of the highest peaks in the region, being one of the best viewpoints in the Himalayas. You can see five 8,000m. (Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu) and an infinity of mountains above 6,000 m.
